FLIGHT COMPENSATION GUIDE
Your EU261 passenger rights
EU Regulation 261/2004 sets out important protections for passengers on covered flights. Fixed compensation is just one part of those protections.
Check your flight →Which flights are covered?
Flights departing from an EU airport are generally covered, irrespective of the operating airline. For flights arriving into the EU from outside it, the operating carrier usually needs to be an EU airline. The rules also extend to certain closely associated European territories.
How much compensation is available?
The standard distance-based amounts are €250, €400 and €600. The applicable category depends on route and distance, with specific rules for certain intra-European and long-distance journeys.
What is the right to care?
Under specified circumstances airlines must provide reasonable meals and refreshments, communication, and where required accommodation and transfers.
Do extraordinary circumstances eliminate every right?
No. Even where a carrier has a valid defence against fixed compensation, other obligations such as care and rerouting or reimbursement can remain.
How long do I have to claim?
Limitation periods differ depending on the applicable national law. There is no universal deadline for every EU261 claim.
