FLIGHT COMPENSATION GUIDE

Cancelled flight rights

Cancellation does not automatically mean you are owed fixed compensation. How far in advance you were notified, alternative travel and the cause all matter.

Does the 14-day rule matter?

Passengers notified fewer than 14 days before departure may qualify for fixed compensation, depending on the timing of alternative flights and any extraordinary circumstances.

Refund or rerouting?

Passengers on covered cancelled flights generally have a choice between reimbursement under the applicable rules and rerouting options. These rights are separate from potential fixed compensation.

What if the airline blames the weather?

Severe weather can constitute extraordinary circumstances, but this does not automatically eliminate obligations to offer care or certain reimbursement or rerouting options.

What evidence is useful?

Keep the original itinerary, airline cancellation notice, any proposed replacement flights, messages and receipts.
